Would it be wise to book a flight to fort lauderdale if Im cruising from Miami port?
My hubby and I are going on a cruise on March 13th, we live in Virginia. The flights to Miami are extremly high so my question is would it be a good decision to fly to fort lauderdale and have the cruise line come get us from ft lauderdale? How are is ft lauderdale from the Miami port? Could we get a cab for a reasonble price or all in all should we just bite the bullet and flight to Miami? Any suggestions on cheap flights?

Go to Miami. Ft Lauderale is 2 hours away and your gonna spend the difference that you svaed on a flight for a cab. Cabs here in Florida are not cheap. Definitely just fly to Miami. Enjoy your cruise!

People do it all the time. You could rent a car at FLL and turn it in in Miami, or park it there and drive it back to FLL when you return. That may cost more than the difference in air fare, however. There are shuttles from FLL to the Miami cruiseport and back. Check the FLL airport website for "ground transportation". You could also go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then "East Coast Departures", then "Florida". Browse through the threads until you find that info or, if you join CC [it's free], you can do a search or post a question. However, the answer you seek IS there - it's been asked many times. BTW - I don't think it's two hours from FLL to the Miami cruiseport unless there's a lot of traffic. Also: Be sure you don't book a return flight too early. Certainly not before Noon.

A cab will cost about $75.00 + tip to the port each way. If that's less than the difference in air fare go for it. Another solution, Go Airport Shuttle advertises about $20 to the port from FLL, but that involves waiting for their van to fill up & drop off other passengers. Third alternative: Google "FLL Airport transportation" for links to a number of private limo services & reserve a limo. They can often be cheaper than a cab because they can book other people at the same time.
