What are packing regulations for flights in the United States

What are packing regulations for flights in the United States?
I'm a first time flyer, I'm 16 years old, and I have no idea what I should do about packing. I'm going to Virginia for one week, so I was wondering if I would be able to narrow it down to just carry on bags. What are you allowed to take on the flight with you, and how big of a bag can you take on a flight? Also, ANY other information about flying on an Airplane that you think I would find useful, please share! I have absolutely noo idea what I'm doing and I'm super nervous DX

The airline you are traveling with sort of dictates what you will bring in terms of amounts and costs. The airline website will tell you the size for carry-on bags. Usually you are allowed 2 items to carry on for free. A roll-aboard suit case or duffel type bag, and a purse or backpack. You can combine things to help consolidate, for example: put your purse inside a backpack, etc. Some airlines let you check a bag for free, but this usually requires "frequent flyer" status. You will most likely get charged for each checked bag. Additionally, iPod, books and magazines help pass the time. Your personal headphones can be used with the on board entertainment too (music and movies). I hope this helps.

Con grats on your first flight! Most airlines charge you for bags these days, but not all. But the important thing is, how much stuff will you actually need? If you can get by with a carry on, it can be less hassle. The good thing aobut checked luggage though, is you drop it off and forget about it. With carry on, you have to lug it with your wherever you go in the airport. Think weekend bag size. You can get away with larger bags sometimes, but those overhead bins are kind of small, and remember, you have to lift it into the overhead bin yourself and get it down. (not so easy if you are short or a small person) ANY liquids have to be less than 3 oz, and they have to be placed in a clear bag. Yes, this means your perfume too! Take out any thing of your purse that could be considered a weapon, even your fingernail file. You can get more information on the airlines website or on the TSA website. Have Fun!
