FAA approved ATC programs after college

FAA approved ATC programs after college?
I go to a liberal arts college in Virginia but my main interest is aviation. I wanted to stay close to home for my undergraduate degree and there are not any close schools with flight programs. I eventually want to be a pilot but I was wondering about maybe becoming an air traffic controller first. Is it possible to take post graduate courses that will eventually get you FAA certified. For instance, does Embry Riddle or other colleges offer programs to students who have already graduated or are they strictly for undergraduates? The closest ATC-CTI is Hampton University. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

When you finish your current degree you'll be qualified to apply for any FAA ATC positions for which AT-CTI schooling is not a pre-requisite. All AT-CTI does is allow you to bypass the first five weeks of qualification training at the FAA Academy. You could certainly go to any one of the AT-CTI schools after graduating and take the pertinent courses. Simply contact each school on the FAA list http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ato/service_units/acquisition/aja51/cti/at-cti_schools.cfm and see what they offer people who already have a degree. The problem you might find is that you won't be able to take the required courses in only 1 or 2 semesters of concentrated study unless there is a certificate program specifically set up for this. It also isn't going to be cheap, particularly at a place lime Embry-Riddle.
