Living on Chesapeake's Bay would be a nice choice. The main city is of course Baltimore which has daily direct services to London by British Airways. Dulles Airport in Washington DC is not that far with many services by British Airways, MAXjet Airways, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Aberdeen, Dundalk and Annapolis are all small towns on the Bay and pretty close to Baltimore and Washington.

If you are talking about IN Metro DC, you are talking about the Potomac River. If you want waterfront property there you'd better have money to burn!
