wondering about leave days and mileage passes?
i am stationed in europe right now and i plan on reenlisting to go to fort lee, virginia.. question is... if i want to go see someone who is stationed in texas.. its about a 4-5 hour flight.. if i wanted to go there for the weekend.. could i? would i have to use leave days? or could i just put in a mileage pass? just wondering how that would work

ask your chain of command. they know more than most people on here about that subject!!!

This would be at the discretion of your commander. What I did as a First Sergeant for people in this situation was have them turn in paperwork for both a mileage pass and leave. If they made it back in time the leave paperwork was torn up and the trip was considered a pass. If they did not make it back on time (no matter what the reason) every day they were gone got charged as leave.

(in my experience) It also would depend on how far away from your duty station it is, if it's within I think 600 miles then you'd be fine to go on a weekend but otherwise you'd need to fill out an out of bounds chit and possible as the other poster said fill out the leave paperwork in case you couldn't get back in time.
