Is Dulles VA and Washington the same area? My flight says Washington IAD but my rental car is says Dulles VA?
I want to make sure I have my rental car at the correct location (Wash DC not Virginia)

Yeah Washington Dulles Airport, VA.Its all the same place.

IAD = International Airport Dulles...answer is yes. One and the same. It's about 30 miles outside of Washington DC.

The official name of the airport is Washington Dulles,. but it is about 30 miles outside of the heart of the city in the state of Virginia. Dulles is not in an incorporated area, so you might also see businesses in the vicinity of the airport using place names of Herndon, Sterling or Ashburn.

YES, you are fine as there are 3 airports serving the DC Metro area: DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (IAD) is on western suburb at edge of Fairfax and Loudoun County and only has expensive bus & taxi service....so rental car is FINE but please make sure you observe the signs bec some of the main thoroughfares along I-66 going in/out of Washingon are HOV RESTRICTED during certain times. The main or most centrally located airport is called RONALD REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT (DCA) on the Washington METRORAIL Blue & Yellow lines. BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON AIRPORT (BWI) is 3rd aitport located off Baltimore-Washington Parkway and has train service... There are 2 main airports in the Washington, DC, area. DCA = Reagan National Airport. It's in Virginia, between Arlington and Alexandria and is about 4 miles from Washington, DC. IAD = Dulles International Airport. It's in Virginia, about 30 miles west of Washington, DC. Your rental car is at the correct airport.

Oh yes. Dulles Airport is the main airport and international hub for Washington, DC. It's in Loudoun County, VA which is an outer suburb of Washington. You got a 24 mile drive East to Washington. By 2015 Dulles should have a metro station.

Dulles airport (IAD) serves the Washington DC area, but is in Virginia. It is about thirty miles out of downtown. So you are fine, you should be able to fly into Dulles Airport and pick up your rental.
