What would I have to do to be qualified to be a flight medic

What would I have to do to be qualified to be a flight medic?
I would really like to be a flight medic in the Air Force. I plan on going to Virginia Military Institute then commissioning into the Air Force. I understand that even though this is what I want to do I may still not get to do it. I can't really find any answers anywhere else, so if you can help it would be greatly appreciated! Do you have to take special classes in college? Do you have to be a Registered nurse? Or can you just be a certified in something kind of like EMT? I have lots of questions:P Anyways, thanks for the help!

There are both enlisted and officer positions in aeromed which is what it is called. Aeromdical flight technicians are enlisted flight medics and flight nurses are RNs. You can apply and are selected to go to flight school after two years of military service as either a medical technician or as a nurse and the competition for those slots is pretty keen. There are also Reserve and Guard aeromedical units out there where you enlist directly into those slots and go to flight school. Enlisted Guard and Reserve must complete three phases of hospital training which is about 18 months before actually going to flight school though while nurses have to have two years of hospital experience before enlisting in such slots. Here are a couple of web sites to give you a little info and feel free to contact me via e-mail and this forum if you like. I did twenty-three years of my thirty-four year career in strat and tactical aeromed. http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/airforce/a/afmedteams.htm http://www.aerovacworld.com/content.php?455-Aeromedical-Evacuation-Technician-Job
